Sometimes when I look out of my bedroom window in the evening, I´m amazed how incredibly beautiful the sky can be during sunset. For a few brief moments you see the sun dripping down to the horizon and everything is coloured by a pink filter. The thoughts led to a nice evening up north. I started by painting the sky in soft pastel colours, where the colour tones blend into each other. The rest of the details emerged during the painting, but I chose to keep the simplicity of the motif. I did not want too many elements in the picture. In the horizon you can see two red houses with spruce forest around and the field in front is buried under deep snow. In the foreground I painted a tall spruce tree; the branches are covered of masses of snow which has given the tree a new shape. The colours I chose to use are tones that I find serene and soft.
In the bubble of creation.
When I paint, it feels like I am entering a bubble where nothing else exists but the canvas and me. Usually I am alone in my studio while painting, as I prefer not to being interrupted and disturbed during the creation of my paintings. In the studio there is an old sofa and according to the daughter she never sleeps as well as when she lies down on the sofa while I paint. She says that the atmosphere in the room becomes so harmonious. This time she slept through the creation of the spruce tree and the snow and my creation was not disturbed by her presence in the “bubble”. I see this as a sign that this artwork can give the viewer peace and quiet. Another curiosity with this painting is that this is actually my 130th painting. The collection at BrittasArt is growing and I feel very pleased that so many of my paintings have found new homes in different parts of the world.
