MY UNCLE AND AUNT

My uncle and aunt.

This time I took on a project that I was not sure about from the beginning if I would be able to complete. During this pandemic, I have thought a lot about the elderly whom have not been able to receive visitors for a long time and have been isolated in their homes. During the pandemic I have regularly talked on the phone to my uncle, who lives in Småland. Last summer was the first we did not meet as they could not travel to the Lapland. I searched among photos and found some pictures from one of their visits to Valencia 2016. It was then I decided to try to paint them. It is not every day I paint people so it’s not an easy task; especially the resemblance is difficult to achieve. I told myself that memory as such had a greater value than portrait-like copies of uncle and aunt. Once again, the scenery is from the village Villafamés with the two strolling down the sloping cobbled streets lined with picturesque houses and colourful flowers.

Spanish excursion with a summer touch.

I wanted to represent in my painting the feeling of going on an excursion in Spain, when you choose an excursion destination, for example a small, picturesque village for where you have never been before. The sun warms nicely as you wander through old neighbourhoods with lots of history in the walls. The scents of all the flowers in blossom tickling your nose, and your eyes cannot get enough of the stunning views and impressive old buildings. Maybe you stop at a cafe or restaurant to try some local specialty. For me it is a pleasure to bring visiting friends to such excursions and I still remember with joy the day we spent in Villafamés together with aunt and uncle. I hope the painting can bring back heart-warming memories of that day we spent together. You can find it in the gallery under the category People.
