Sometimes when I start a theme with a special motive, the inspiration lingers and several ideas are born from the same source. After completing the previous painting with the scenery from Villafamés, I remembered the beautiful roofs and facades that you see when you are at the top of the hill, the church tower with worn brick that rises proudly towards the sky. The rooftops below create a beautiful patchwork in various reddish-brown terracotta tones. On the right hand side I painted a stone facade where the red-coloured stones form a decorative pattern. The dark shadows make a sharp contrast to the surfaces where the light is more intense. During the painting process, I realized that when I was out walking, I was looking up to see all details of the roofs I was passing by. I wanted to capture the shape, the colour, and the shadows and then transfer them to my canvas to make the it as authentic as possible. I find the roof tiles which are used in Spain so beautiful.
Not so many different colours on my palette.
This time I only had a limited number of colours on my palette. The blue tone of the sky, terracotta-colour for the church tower and roof tiles, and a little bit of white for one or two facades were the only colours I used. The choice of colours became a rather pleasant combination to look at. What do you think? Did I manage to recreate the authentic environment and capture the charm of the village? What do you think?
