When Christmas had passed, I began to dream of summer. My memory brought me back to the summer of 2021 when we spent a wonderful week in Norway. The pandemic had so slowly begun to recede and once again, on presentation of a Covid passport, people were allowed to cross the border which had been kept closed for a quite some time. The Norwegian landscape has always fascinated me. A more magnificent and unique nature than the Norwegian coast is hard to find anywhere else in the world. I well remember this particular morning my husband and I were out on an early walk when we were greeted by this mighty view. We both kept quiet for a moment and enjoyed the stunning view; the beautiful summer sky with fluffy clouds, the glittering water of the fjord and the majestic mountains “Tustnastabban” that raising in the background. I couldn´t get enough of the landscape, so therefore I let the brushes take me back to that glorious summer day. We feel fortunate to have a number of very good friends in the neighboring country. Sometimes they visit us in Spain / Sweden or as in this case we were the visitors.
Sky and sea.
I started with the sky in this painting, an intense blue sky that occurs on a hot summer day up in the north. The clouds were painted there lightly on the hand with white and light grey shades. On the horizon I sketched the contours of the mountains and then I started with the sea, the reflections from the mountains in the water and the surface of the sea that shifts in blue tones. In the foreground, the bare rocks are adorned with brownish algae washed in by the last tide. Many different brushes were used this time to get an interpretation of my summer memory as realistic as possible. I hope you can “travel in your thoughts” when you look at the painting and I’m already looking forward to my next trip to Norway. You will find the painting in the category Norway in the art gallery on my website.
