Branches covered with snow.
After days of thaw when the temperature drops under minus again, the new snow sticks to the branches like a beautiful, white decoration. The ground is dressed in a smooth and untouched covering of deep snow. The only thing that breaks the perfect surface is some fresh tracks. A little hare jumps past and leaves traces of its paws in the snow. Here nobody can sneak past without leaving tracks behind. You immediately sink to your knees in the soft snow if you try.
Few hours of daylight.
During the coldest months, the days are short in Lapland. Sometimes the sky is shifting with pink tones and gives a blue, violet light that reflects on the snow. There are few hours of daylight at this time of the year; maybe therefore colours seem extra intense and wonderful a short while, while it is bright. It is just another fantastic day in beautiful Lapland and I feel the cold biting in my cheeks. You can see the painting “Branches covered with snow” in Lapland Winter in the gallery.
