Foljefonna, the Hardanger fjord
From my former “neighbour” Norway I received a request to create a painting of the Hardanger fjord. At first I hesitated as this is a place I have never visited, but I felt it was an interesting project so I decided to accept the challenge. I received some photos and descriptions of the place in detail. Even so, I felt that I needed to put more flesh on my bones before I got started. Therefore I watched fishing programmes from Norway, video clips from fjords in Norway and photos from the Hardanger fjord to be able to get the right feeling and to prepare myself. In the end I started dreaming of Norwegian deep fjords. It was necessary to do this research to find the right colours. A fjord does not have the same blue colour as a Swedish lake or the Mediterranean Sea. Everyone who has visited Norway has surely been impressed by the stunning views and beautiful landscapes, a coast you cannot find anywhere else in the world. To come somewhere near reality I needed to create a depth in the painting and let the sky and the sea dominate the scenery. Then I added the fishing cottages and a small boat, a detail to fulfill a request from the person who commissioned the painting. You will find now this painting in the Gallery, under Landscape, Norway.
To commission a painting.
If you have a favourite spot from your childhood or if you would like to surprise a dear one with a painting please send me a request and I shall look into it and get back to you. It is a gift with a personal touch. The times I have done commissions like this, it has been fantastic to see the recipient´s reaction. To have your favourite place as a painting hanging on the wall, seeing it every day is much appreciated.
