My motifs fluctuate between Sweden and Spain as you may have noticed. This time it was Spain and the lemon tree in our garden that became my inspiration. It is truly a wealth to harvest lemons directly from the tree and not to forget the lovely scent of citrus blossom in the spring. This year there was a bountiful harvest, and it is a luxury to just walk out of the kitchen and pick what you need. A bowl of ripe lemons is a beautiful detail on the kitchen counter so who knows it might become a future motif.
Yellow.
I mixed several shades of yellow on the palette to get as believable a colour as possible on the fruits. Bright lemon yellow where the light hits the fruit and a darker yellow tone where the leaves on the tree create shadow. The leaves are intensely green and the branches a dark brown shade. What is really cool about citrus trees is that they can bear fruit while they are in bloom. When they start to bloom in the spring, they still bear fruit. I have used different types of brushes, sponges to create the structure of the shell. Look at my painting and tell me what you think of my interpretation.
