Up on the hill.
I decided to start 2019 with a small summer painting. The scenery is from the village where my parents were born and grew up. This particular view is from the house where my mum lived with her her parents and siblings, a big sister and three younger brothers. The view has of course changed quite a bit over the years. When she was little there was less forest and more farm land, but the lush green colour of the greenery and the blue summer sky have probably not changed even though many years have gone by.
A summer idyll with a lot of memories.
I have spent a lot of time with my brush to try to give the ground a natural look, a grass surface in various green shades with traces of a path leaving yellow spots in the grass. A common flower in this region is “Chamerion angustifolium” (Latin). Look closely and you will see some flowers with a strong magenta colour sticking out in the grass here and there. I would like to awaken the viewer´s desire to step into the painting and continue walking down the hill to the lake where the mountains on the other side are beautifully reflected on the water. You see the mountains I am talking about on the horizon of the painting. During my childhood I spent my summers in this village, situated in the inland of South Lapland. A peaceful place where I enjoy going back to as it fills me with so many nice memories. You will find the painting in the gallery, in the category “Lapland, summer”.
