Day dreaming by the window.
This paining is a gift to my husband. He chose the theme and I painted, though I have to admit that I did a lot of changes from the original idea during the process. As an artist, I have to like what I am going to paint otherwise the result will not be good, so I changed a few things in the composition, hopefully to the better. When he said he wanted a window I was delighted because I like the idea of having a painted window on the wall. It is like opening up to a new world, getting a view that you don´t have in reality. In this case, the view is taken from the mountains in Vilhelmina, not far from the Norwegian border. A place with wide expanses and due to the height there is no forest like pine trees here, just wind pinned birch trees characterizing the landscape. In the painting there are some close to the deep lake to be seen. The clouds which are rising up in the sky are predicting that the rain might be on its way. The weather in the mountain can change very fast, similar as at sea. The frame of the window looks worn out and the paint has started to fall off, and the wall paper with small flowers has got a yellow tone. Time has made its marks.
A pot plant with memories.
In the window I chose to paint a pot plant that awakens a lot of memories. Both my mum and my mother-in-law used to have these African violets,or in Latin; S.ionantha, in their kitchen windows. They always adorned their place and flowered wonderfully almost the year around. This particular plant I decided to put in an old cup with blue flowers. The thin delicate curtains makes it homely but without obscuring the view of the landscape outside. As the evening descends, the rustic lamp can be turned on an spread its pleasant light. The aim with this painting is to give the viewer peace and harmony and let the soul resting in the view from a window. The painting “Day dreaming through the window” can be seen in the gallery under Windows.
