From my latest painting with inspiration from Italy, I traveled in my thoughts to mountains in Vilhelmina, Lapland, not far from the Norwegian border. The mountain peaks are called Såttan and Kakkankaise and rise majestically in front of Marsfjällen. A place like the one you see in my artwork breathes a lot of peace and harmony. The vast expanses and the barren but beautiful landscape spread out in front of the viewer, and you see no human footprint in the untouched nature. The photos which gave me inspiration I received from my sister-in-law in Klimpfjäll. After living for over 20 years in Spain, a country that is considerably more densely populated than northern Sweden, I appreciate even more a landscape where you can feel completely alone. I chose late fall or early winter. The first snow fell and decided to stay. The days are getting shorter and even though it is early afternoon, dusk has begun to set in. The air is high and clear.
Blue and pink tones.
The pink tones of the sky are interspersed with the blues that are reflected in the thin crust of ice that has spread thin layer over the lake. Slowly but surely, nature will be frozen and for several months lie dormant under a thick blanket of snow, waiting for the first rays of spring sun. The branches of the trees form beautiful black silhouettes in the foreground. The shadows are drawn on the snow and shift in blue-grey tones.
