An alleyway in Mallorca.
The environment this time takes you to Mallorca, Spain. I imagine myself strolling along narrow alleys while the warm, humid air embraces my body and it smells sweet and floral. If you do not live in South Europe but use to travel here, I think you understand the fragrance I am thinking of. The first years I was living in Spain I experienced it every time I stepped out off the aircraft but now the sense of smell has become accustomed to the scents here so the aroma is not as tangible anymore. I see in front of me stone houses with yellow-brown facades with slightly rough surface, windows decorated with green shutters. Some are open while others are closed. The sun reflects beautifully in the glass windows of the doors. I use different kinds of brushes and a sponge to recreate the uneven structure of the wall. To create depth in the picture I let the colours be slightly washed out and diffuse at the end of the alley.
Rows of terracotta pots filled with sparkling flowers stand along the street and smaller pots adorn the house wall. It is really a delight for the eye to look at the floral decoration along the paved street. The pots are beautiful in their simplicity and I love their rust brown colour. Lush flowers in all colours fill the pots in different sizes. The cobblestones are worn by the tooth of the time and by all people who have passed by over the years. I mix three grey tones that I vary between to make the street of cobblestone as natural as possible. Last of all, I bring out my brushes with a fine tip to paint all the beautiful flowers. I hope you feel relaxed when looking at the painting. You find the art work in the gallery, in the category “Mediterranean Sea”.
