This motif takes us to Norway. When you drive from Östersund to Trondheim via Storlien, just after crossing the Norwegian border, you come to a village called Meråker. On our trip to visit good friends in Norway, this was perfect stop where to have a coffee break and stretch our legs after a few hours in the car. Closest to the Norwegian-Swedish border, the landscape does not differ much between the two countries. The differences are more noticeable between the neighbouring countries the closer you get to the coast. As far as I know, the Norwegian coast is not found anywhere else in the world. During our coffee break, we stopped at a rest area where a Norwegian river roared past. The riverbanks were lined with rocks sticking out of the water. Some places shallower than others, the darker the colour of the river, the deeper it is. Tall conifers can be seen in the background and leafy trees closest to the river. A beautiful place that stuck in my memory.
Cherry pink flowers
The flowers, Epilobium angustifolium, which are so common up north, were a bright contrast to the green colours in nature. Their brilliant cherry pink colour lights up many ditch edges along the roads in Norrland. Beautiful in their simplicity, I would say, and a hallmark of our nature in the north. For me, it is important to capture moments in the beautiful nature that surrounds us. I store them in my inspiration bank so they can be used when the motivation to paint arises.
