This must be the longest break from painting ever. Due to a move and a busy schedule at work, free time has been filled with a thousand and one other things and painting has not been a priority. Once I sat down at the easel again, I felt a little rusty and it was a little tough to get started. I chose to make an interpretation of a colourful geranium. Once started, I felt comfortable an “back in business” again. The joy of creating was back and I realised that I had really missed being in my “bubble” when nothing else than canvas and my brush exist.
Aunt Anna-Lisa.
While painting, I started thinking of my aunt Anna-Lisa who had the most magnificent geraniums I have ever seen. I got a flashback from my childhood; I remembered when mum and I sat at her kitchen table while she made coffee and putting delicious homemade cookies on a plate. The kitchen windows were full of pots with blooming geraniums in different colours. Big, impressive plants with load of flowers. I remember finding them so beautiful. Rays of sunlight shone into her kitchen and the atmosphere was convivial and pleasant, a nice moment of friendship between sisters. I have used sharp red colours to make the motif stand out from the light greenery in the background. I have painted quite a few paintings of geraniums over the years. This must be the fourth artwork with that flower if I’m not wrong. Flowers are fun to depict and give positive vibes. Who doesn’t get happy getting flowers?
