This work of art is a bit different from my previous works as this is a look back at history. A good friend contacted me with a humble request asking if I could think about making an interpretation of what his homestead used to look like. In 1956, many villages in southern Lapland were photographed from an airplane and Gran\u00e5sen in Dorotea municipality was no exception. Then the pictures could be ordered by the landlords and since there were no colour photos then, you could order to have the photo coloured. The picture I received via email had admittedly aged but not yellowed as the first colour photos did, so in this case the quality of the colour shades was quite okay. I quickly decided to capture the details that appealed to me, e.g. an auction up in the village that was going on just that day when the photo was taken. \u00a0The small details of the houses also caught my attention. I let my imagination flow freely in other parts of the painting and added both animals and people in the painting and hoisted Swedish flags in two flagpoles. I looked through old photo albums and read in the book Gran\u00e5sen 200 years to transfer myself to that time in my mind and for the inspiration to sprout. I wanted to capture the feeling of life and movement on the farms one summer day at a time when the villages were still full of people.<\/p>\n
Red cottages in a village in southern Lapland.<\/strong><\/p>\n The red cottages lights up with their warm colour and make a nice contrast to the newly mowed meadows and pastures. I wanted to capture a real Swedish idyll. A temporary parking lot has been set up so that those who were interested in the auction had somewhere to leave their cars. The road winds up the fairly steep hill up to the house at the top of the village where a large crowd has gathered. The dense spruce forest that the rock has been adorned with provides a natural protection against weather and wind up on the hill. My mother’s homestead was situated next to this property so I could almost feel her presence while I was painting and it made the desire to paint even stronger. She would have liked the idea of \u200b\u200bthis specific painting, I am sure. During the creation process, I have had close contact with the customer who has come up with ideas and proposals. For the tiniest details, I used a brush with a very narrow tip, with only a few straws. The smallest details are always the most time consuming in an artwork. Another thing that made this painting a little different is the perspective. Normally, I work a lot to create depth in my artwork with a horizon in the background and more prominent details in the foreground. In this case the perspective from above this was a new challenge for me. I hope the motif catches the viewer’s eye. As before, I invite you to leave your comment.
