After my move from the north, many of my southern European friends have asked if I have ever seen the northern lights when they hear that I have roots in Lapland. \u201cOf course I have\u201d, used to be my answer. When I was growing up the northern light was nice to watch when it appeared, but afterwards one didn\u00b4t think much of it. Later in life I realised that it can be an incredible experience if you have never had the chance to see it before. We were driving from the mountain down the valley towards Vilhelmina with some Asian guests in the back seat. I remember that we stopped the car and went out. The night was pitch black, no artificial lights disturbed the heavenly spectacle. Green-yellow loops that hovered over the sky sometimes with the colour tones turned into pale pink. An almost phosphor green colour with lemon-green elements gave a strong contrast to the dark winter sky. Our guests just stood there paralysed, staring up at the sky, completely amazed they were watching the northern lights until the green veils slowly thinned out, dissolved and disappeared. Left was the dark night sky decorated with shining stars. As we continued our journey, they explained that for them it had been an absolutely magical experience to see a northern light once in their life time and with tears in their eyes they said that they \u00a0had never ever thought they would get the chance to experience it. Apparently for them it would bring luck in life.<\/p>\n
With a painting as a prize.<\/strong><\/p>\n When I started experimenting with painting northern lights this Autumn and when this coincided with a golf tournament that our company annually organizes where one of the prizes is usually a painting from BrittaArt, I decided that this would be a suitable motive. It was extra fun when it turned out that my art work would travel far this time, all the way to Texas. Not the first painting that lands in the US but hopefully not the last one either. I hope that it can wake up an interest in travelling to Lapland, you never know. Then, of course, there is no guarantee that the Northern Lights will appear when travelling up north, but perhaps it is a bit of the magic not to know.
