In this painting I am taking you to my favourite place. There is a beautiful bay where I spent many summers during my childhood. For me, this place breathes a lovely tranquility and here it is just you and the nature. The bay is lined with a nice sandy beach and the lake invites you to a cool swim during the bright summer nights. I love the quiet feeling when sitting on the beach looking out over the lake. Here you can actually listen to silence, something that becomes more and more difficult to find in our world. The only thing that breaks the silence is an Artic Loon (Gavia Arctica) whose cry oaks between the mountains. It feels a bit like the time has stopped since my ancestors stepped on the same ground, almost nothing has changed only the trees are from a newer age.<\/p>\n
To paint without brush.<\/strong><\/p>\n The birch trees are very common up north and on this promontory there are plenty of them. I particularly like to recreate the trunks so the look three-dimensional and as realistic as possible. I try to accomplish that by using different techniques when painting. To start with I put the canvas vertically; in this way I think it is easier to give the tree trunk its round shape, with shade on one side and light on the other. I turn the canvas back to its initial position when I have managed to get the shape I want. To make a fair interpretation of the bark of the birch trees, I use both a spatula and a sponge. It creates a structure that looks natural. If my brush cannot do the job, I\u00b4ll find something else to paint with to achieve the finish I am looking for. To let the creativity loose beyond the limits might help to find new ways to take the painting to a new level.
